It's been a while...

It has been a while since I have been on here and I have to say it will probably be a while before I am on here again. Life has become just a little bit busy, maybe a tad stressful at times and my cardmaking has sadly suffered for it. On the upside I have been spending some more time outside in the garden and enjoying God's beautiful creation (along with the dog, sheep, chickens and duck).

"The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands."
Psalm 19:1

I did spend a little bit of time making some cards for our local Brunswick Show (one of Australia's biggest one day shows). I was thrilled to get 5 firsts, two seconds and a highly commended. I also took out the overall cardmaking trophy (third year in a row!!).

Both of my daughters also entered items this year. The eldest won first for her chocolate brownies and second for an "item using a gluing technique" - she made a paper mache turtle. The youngest won second for her salt dough bowl that she made and painted.

Here are a few photos:

So that's it from me for a while. Cards will still be made, occasionally, but may not always be posted. My Copics will not be forgotten either :-) Thank you all so much for looking.
I can't say for sure when my next post will be (but I don't think I will post much in 2017 - aiming to be back on a more regular basis in 2018). So until then, thank you and take care.

I'll leave you with a few (maybe more than a few :-) verses:

God Creates His Kingdom
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1
"God saw all that he had made, and behold, it was very good." Genesis 1:31
"The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."" Genesis 2:16-17

But people reject God
"When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate." Genesis 3:6
"And I will put enmity between you [the serpent] and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel." Genesis 3:15

and God banished them from the Garden
"So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken." Genesis 3:23

Everyone has rejected God
"For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23

But God loves us so much
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whosoever believes in him shall have eternal life" John 3:16

Jesus is the way
"For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23
Jesus said... "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

because of what He did for us
"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

If you have faith in Jesus, our sins are forgiven, we are washed clean
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:17

But life is not always rosey...but our focus must remain on Jesus
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."
James 1:1-4

"And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Hebrews 12:1b-2

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Hebrews 11:1

"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever."
Isaiah 40:8

Wedding Rose

I love my Copic markers and I've been using them for about 4 years now and its been a big learning curve - but you can always learn more. I've found Kit & Clowder to be a great community of inspiration, learning and fun and am glad I found their facebook community and Alyce's online classes.

http://www.kitandclowder.com/

Alyce announced a while back that she is getting married in October this year and wanted the community to join in. She offered a free wedding rose colouring class (more info on the FB page here) and once coloured, we can send the rose(s) to her and Jon.

This is the rose I coloured:
Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, wedding, rose, blue rose, copic, Kit and Clowder

My children also did some roses (sorry no pictures) and they are on their way to Alyce and Jon :-)

Fragrance

I had intended to enter the Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light monthly challenge quite a few weeks ago but only just got around to making my card this week! Better late than never right?? :-) Here is my card:

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Our Daily Bread Designs, Fragrance, prismacolor pencils, flowers, butterflies, with love, double stitched rectangles, bitty butterflies, lovely leaves, mini tags and labels, mini tag sentiments, handmade card

The challenge was "Anything that grows" - I've stamped the image from Our Daily Bread Designs "Fragrance" numerous times onto kraft cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured with prismacolor pencils. I've then diecut the piece using Our Daily Bread Designs Double Stitched Rectangles dies. I've also used ODBD Bitty Butterflies, ODBD Lovely Leaves dies, ODBD Bitty Blossoms dies, ODBD Mini Tags and Labels dies and ODBD Mini Tag Sentiments stamp set.

Here is a closer look:

Sweet Simple Things

Spent a lovely afternoon yesterday colouring in this digital stamp from PowerPoppy called "Sweet Simple Things". I just adore PowerPoppy images!

I've printed the digital stamp onto X-Press It blending card and coloured with Copic markers.

Copic colours used include BV11, BV13, BV17, RV13, RV17, YR21, YR27, Y06, Y15, Y17, Y26, Y38, YG25, YG61, YG63, YG67, G21, G24, G28, E70, E74, E79, C1, C4 and C6.

I was undecided about the background but eventually went for an ombre green of YG67 at the bottom, YG63 in the middle and YG61 at the top, instead of usually green for grass and blue for sky.

I've stamped bees from Our Daily Bread Designs Butterfly and Bugs onto X-Press It blending card, coloured with Copics and diecut with ODBD Butterfly and Bugs dies.

For the little butterfly I took one of the sentiments from PowerPoppy Juicy Strawberries and printed it really small (I also stretched it out horizontally) and then diecut with the butterfly die from ODBD Butterfly and Bugs dies. Added a little BV Copic around the outside and then blended it back out with the colourless blender.

The butterfly and bees are popped up on foam tape and I've added some glossy accents to all the bees' wings. The ribbon I used originally had white dots but my Y17 Copic fixed that :-)

It's a little hard to see but the second yellow flower from the left also has a little love-heart see-through button glued in the centre :-)

I am entering my card in the PowerPoppy Power & Spark challenge - B Happy - to make things that start with "B" the focus of your card. I have a beehive, bees, butterfly and button :-)

Outdoor Backgrounds Tutorial - Clouds and Grass

I am so excited to be a Guest Tutorial Author on SplitcoastStampers again!

My last tutorial was on colouring hair (and can be found here). This tutorial is on creating an outdoor background with clouds and grass.

You can find the Outdoor Backgrounds tutorial at SplitcoastStampers here.

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Copic, Mo Manning, Mother to be, copic background, tutorial, clouds, grass, sky, Our Daily Bread Designs, As You Graduate, pregnant
This is the card (above) I made in the Step by Step instructions. The image is a digital stamp from Mo Manning (Mother to be) and it is all coloured with Copic markers (although the same principles in the tutorial can be applied to other marker brands and even pencils). I've also used a rubber stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs "As You Graduate" for the sentiment.

The tutorial also includes a video. Below is the card I did in the video tutorial.
Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Whimsy Stamps, Love you slow much, copic, snail, girl, purple, clouds, grass, outdoor background, copic tutorial
You can watch the video through the SplitcoastStampers tutorial page here or through my YouTube channel here (the video on my You Tube channel has music added if you don't like sitting through long periods of "silence". If you do prefer silence - watch the one on the SCS page.
The card above uses the digital stamp, Love You Slow Much, from Whimsy Stamps. All coloured with Copic markers (view a speed colouring video here). I've used Our Daily Bread Designs Lovely Leaves to diecut the leaves and the rest are bought items.

At the end of the video I briefly show another card (below) which uses the same techniques as the tutorial but just a different style of clouds.
Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Copic, outdoor background, cloud, Whimsy Stamps, Daphne, fairy, turquoise, handmade card
This card uses the digital stamp, Daphne, also from Whimsy Stamps, coloured with Copic markers (see this blog post for Copic colours used). I've used Spellbinders Shapeabilities "Foliage Two" to diecut the leaves and the rest are bought items (the flowers were originally white and were coloured with Copic markers to match the card colour theme).

I hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Daphne

Today I'm sharing a fairy image I coloured called "Daphne" by Whimsy Stamps (digital stamp).

Copic marker colours I used to colour her are:
Background: C1, C2, C3, B60, B000, B01
Hair: E21, YR31, E35, E27
Skin: E00, E21, E11, E04, R81 (blush)
Dress, socks and headband: B00, B02, BG45, BG49
Wings and shoes: B01 and BG11
Little flowers: Y15, Y38
Large flower: Y00, Y02, Y15, Y38, YR04, R17
Leaves and stem: G12, G24, G46

The paper flowers in the bottom left and top right were originally white and coloured with BG11 and BG45 Copic markers. I've then added some Doodlebug Design inc. sprinkles - Tangerine glitter assortment.

Cardstock I used includes X-Press It blending card, Bazzill heavyweight cardstock - Robin's Egg (lighter one) and I think the other one is called Candy Necklace. I've also got a white piece of Bazzill (marshmallow) inside the card.

This card was made for a friend's daughters birthday :-)

I am entering my card in the following challenges:

Birthday card and Box of Flowers

It was my Mum's birthday a few weeks ago and this is the card I made for her.

Tulips in hobnail pitcher, Copics, PowerPoppy, AnnaBelle Stamps, birthday, handmade card, flowers, jug, vase, Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra

The image is a digital stamp "Tulips in Hobnail Pitcher" by PowerPoppy (love those images!) and the sentiment is from AnnaBelle Stamps "Standing Tall". I've partially diecut the image using a circle die and fussy cut the rest. Layered the image and added some enamel dots to finish.

Copic colours used
If you can't see the Copic colours in the image: RV00, E53, E97, RV17, RV69, G28, RV29, 0, G24, BG78, E99, RV13, E07 and G20.

I then made my mum some flowers in a box :-)

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Sizzix bigz dies, Flower layers #7, flower layers with heart petal, dragonfly, we r memory keepers gift box punch board, split pins, bouquet, ladybug, ladybird, handmade

The flowers are all diecut using Sizzix "Flower Layers with Heart Petal" and "Flower Layers #7" bigz dies. I first glued some designer paper together to make it double sided, then diecut the flowers. Curled / rumbled them a bit with some foam and a stylus, then layered them together and fastened with a split pin. I wound some thin wire to the back side of the split pins for stalks. The box is made using We R Memory Keepers Gift Box punch board. I then scrunched up some scrap paper and glued it in the box so I had something to push my flower stalks in to. Once all the flowers were in place I added some Perfect Pearls and sprayed with a little water.

Little firefighter

It was my nephew's birthday a while ago and I've always wanted to do a brick wall with my Copics (I hardly every use the chisel end!) - I thought Mo Manning's "Playing Firefighter" was a great opportunity to try it!

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Mo Manning, Playing Firefighter, birthday card, male, boy, Copics, chisel,

The image is coloured with Copics. I started with the background (in case I messed up the brick wall) and used the chisel end and a few different colours to create the wall.

All the Copic colours I used for the image

Copics colours I used for the bricks. E53 - base colour. E07, E09 and E99 - bricks. C3 - shadow

Mother's Day

I know I'm a bit late posting Mother's Day cards....but these are the two I made for my mum and mother-in-law.

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Mother's Day, handmade card, Easy Breezy Coneflowers, PowerPoppy, Copics, scor, our daily bread designs, stitched ovals dies

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Mother's Day, handmade card, Easy Breezy Coneflowers, PowerPoppy, Copics, scor, our daily bread designs, stitched ovals dies

Both use digital stamps - Easy Breezy Coneflowers image and the sentiment from Flowering Branches - both from PowerPoppy. I've printed the images twice for each card and diecut one of them using Our Daily Bread Designs Stitched ovals dies. I've coloured the diecut piece using Copics and then adhered to the other image using foam tape. I scored around the edge of the white piece using my scorpal. Nice and quick and simple.

Pencils and tulips

I can't believe February was my last post - and it's now nearly June!! I've been so caught up in school, work and living on our new property that I haven't picked up my Copics (or made cards) as much as I would've liked. But I have been doing some things - just haven't got around to posting!

A while ago I held an "open house" for friends and family to come and have a chat / do some craft activities while the kids played and also did some colouring-in. This is one piece I coloured for that day.

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, tulips, prismacolour, pencils, PowerPoppy, Scripture Collection 9, Recipe and Tags dies, Our Daily Bread Designs, Canson Mi Tientes

The image is a digital stamp "tulips" by PowerPoppy and has been coloured using Prismacolor pencils on Canson Mi Tientes card.

The stamp and die are both from Our Daily Bread Designs - Scripture Collection 9 and Recipe and Tags Dies.

Let me Tell you Bout the Birds and the Bees

No, this is not a blog post about explaining the mechanics of reproduction to children...but it is literally about Birds and Bees :-)

I discovered this wonderful group on facebook (you will probably need to be a member to see the page) run by Brandi Dayton, who I understand sadly had a tragic loss in her family not too long ago. She has used her art as a way of coping with her loss and decided to share 6 free mixed media projects with the theme "Birds and the Bees".

The group is currently up to Project 4, but I've only finished number 1 not long ago (but there are more people joining all the time so we are all at different stages). The great thing about the group is that whether you're a beginner artist or professional, there is something for you. Those of us, like me, who don't delve into mixed media a lot (and don't often draw my own stuff (although I do like to draw and am trying to find time to draw more often)), you are able to follow the videos more exactly and Brandi helps with any drawing that is required. But if you're a professional or mixed media is something you do a lot, you can use Brandi's projects as inspiration and I see a lot of people putting their own style into the pieces as they share their finished works in the facebook group.

I followed Brand's first project quite closely but did do all the drawing myself :-)

Elizabeth Whisson, Birds and the Bees, flowers, mixed media, wood painting panel, Alshandra, prismacolor, watercolour, acrylic

This first project is on a wood painting panel (mine is 12" x 16") and uses arcylics (I used a mix of Jo Sonja's and Atelier brands), coloured pencils (I used prismacolors), watercolours (I used Winsor and Newton) and Posca Pens (I used PC-3M white and black).

I sealed my wood painting panel with Jo Sonja's All Purpose Sealer before applying the black acrylic paint to the whole board and sides. I then followed Brandi's videos pretty closely although I did use a white pencil to lightly draw my image before going over it with the white Posca pen.

All the links are in the facebook group and also on Brandi's website. The direct link on her website to Project 1 is here.

As I said above mixed media is not my forte but I really enjoyed this project and can't wait to actually sit down and start project number 2 (a watercolour piece). I've been trying to "find time" for about two weeks now! How do we get so busy??! Anyway, I hope to share piece number two with you when it's finished.

Thanks for looking :-)

Bus Books

School has recently started here in Western Australia and as we moved house last year my kids are going to a new school this year. To get to their new school they are traveling on the school bus for the first time. To make it all special for them I made them these "bus books" (with special bags to keep them safe/clean) that they can write and draw in during the trip. (Well it's really a decorated front of a bought spiral bound notepad.) They are enjoying the bus trips and are excited to look out the window as they go along but they both also love their books and I enjoy seeing what the write/draw :-)

Here are the books:
Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Whimsy Stamps, Rowan Fairy, Copic markers, Copic, Sketch, clouds, stickles
The image is Rowan Fairy by Whimsy Stamps. It is printed on X-Press It blending card and  coloured with Copic markers.

Copic colours used:
Clouds: C00, C1, C2, C3, BG90, W1
Sky: BG000, BG0000, BG01
Skin: E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, R20
Clothes: V01, V04, V06, V09 + E41, C1 and 0
Hair: YR21, E21, E25, E29
Berries: YR04, YR07, YR18, R17
Branch: E21, E23, E25
Leaves: YG21, YG23, FYG2
Wings: Y06, Y18, YR15
Cast shadow: C3

I've then added some Stickles for sparkle and inked the edge with Distress Ink.

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Bird Swing, Whimsy Stamps, Copic, Sketch, Copic bokeh background,
This one is Bird Swing by Whimsy Stamps. It is again printed on X-Press It blending card and coloured with Copics.

I did the background first (just in case I messed it up)! I kind of (you don't need to be exact) blended YG0000, YG00, YG01, Y11, Y06, YG11, YG23, YG17, YG67 randomly over the background (but I concentrated the lighter colours in the top left) then used my colourless blender marker to soften some edges. I then dripped colouress blender various ink (straight from the various ink bottle) over the background randomly to create the large circles. You need to be a little careful where you drip it as you don't want the colour spreading too far into your image. However, I did get green all over my birds, but I let it dry and then used the colourless blender marker to push the colour back out to the background. I like this background as it kind of gives a bokeh-like background - like you were looking at the birds with a shrub blurred in the background :-)

Copic colours used:
Background: YG0000, YG00, YG01, Y11, Y06, YG11, YG23, YG17, YG67, 0 and 0 various ink
Flowers: RV21, RV23, RV25, RV29
Birds: B00, B21, B23, B26, B28 + Y06 and YR15
Wood: E70, E74, E77, E79
Leaves: G24 and G28

Once again I added some Stickles for sparkle and inked the edge with Distress Ink.

Lord's Prayer

For the last card that I made today I have used stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs.

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Lord's Prayer, Christian, scripture, handmade card, Fragrance, Trois Jolies Papillons, Copic, vellum, leafy edged borders, enamel dots

I've stamped the Lord's Prayer Script on white cardstock. I've then stamped the image from Fragrance (also available separately as an image called Wild Rose) in clear ink several times onto vellum and embossed with white embossing powder. I did the same with the butterfly which is from the Trois Jolies Papillons stamp set. I used my Copics to colour on the reverse side of the vellum. The vellum has been diecut using Leafy Edged Borders from Our Daily Bread Designs.

Copic colours used: Y15, Y38, YG23, YG17 and R85.

Lastly I added some enamel dots.

I am entering this card in the Something New, Something Old challenge (ODBDSLC269) at Our Daily Bread Designs. The Lord's Prayer and the Trois Jolies Papillons stamp sets are new for me as is the Leafy Edged Border die I used. The enamel dots I've had sitting in my stash for AGES!

Thanks for looking!

This card is also for sale in this album on my facebook page.

Berry It

Had to get my Copics out today and colour up this gorgeous image from Power Poppy.

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Berry It, Power Poppy, digi stamp, Copic, berries, handmade card

The image is a digi stamp called Berry It from Power Poppy. I've used the image numerous times, flipping, rotating and erasing parts to make it fit onto other parts of the image. The sentiment is from the same set. It is all printed onto X-Press It blending card and coloured with Copics. The card measures 3.5" x 7.5".

Copic colours used:
Berries: RV91, BV04, BV08, RV99 and white gel pen
Leaves: G21, G24, G28 and BG78
Flowers: RV000, RV02 and BV00 with BV04 in the centres
Background: B60 and B63

I am entering this card in the Stretch Yourself PowerPoppy challenge. I have used a tall format card and the Berry It digi image is new to me. Making tall cards is also new to me.

Thanks for looking.

This card is also for sale in this album on my facebook page.

Stretched Hellebores

Just popping in quickly to share a card I made. I coloured this image up a few days ago using watercolour pencils but only got around to making it into a card today.

Elizabeth Whisson, Power Poppy, Hellebores, watercolour, Alshandra, Mother's Day

The image is a digi called Hellebores from Power Poppy. Power Poppy have a challenge at the moment to "Stretch Yourself", so I've stretched the digi vertically before printing onto watercolour card. The whole card measures 3.5" x 6". I've then used my Scorbug thing to make the pierced dots around the edge (first time I've actually used it on a card even though I've had it for about 3 or so years now!).

The sentiment is also a digi from Power Poppy from the Flowering Branches set.

You can find all the details about the PowerPoppy Stretch Yourself challenge here. I've stretched the digi, used a tall card format (which is new for me) and used my scorbug for the first time!

Stargazer Lily

I coloured up another Our Daily Bread Designs image, this one is a flower - Stargazer Lily. I decided to go for a nice and bright orange / yellow / green colour scheme.

Our Daily Bread Designs, Elizabeth Whisson, Copics, Stargazer Lily, Boho Blessings, Layered Lacey Squares, Christian Faith Collection, Butterfly, Trois Jolies Papillon

You can buy this stamp as a single image, Stargazer Lily, or as a set, Beauty. I've diecut the main image using ODBD Layered Lacey Squares Dies and inked with Distress Ink Carved Pumpkin while still in the die. It is then popped up on foam tape.

The DP is from ODBD Blooming Garden Collection with the top piece being diecut using ODBD Leafy Edged Borders Dies.

The sentiment is from ODBD Boho Blessings. The butterflies are stamped in Memento Tangelo and Dandelion ink using ODBD Trois Jolies Papillons stamps and diecut using ODBD Trois Papillons Dies.

Please see my You Tube channel, or the video directly here, for a speed colouring video using Copic markers for this image. (For copic marker colours used please see the video.)

Dolphins

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. I've enjoyed a nice week and a half off (back to work tomorrow - yay, not!).

I haven't picked up my Copics since I had made the teacher's gifts so I thought it was time to do some colouring and the current challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBDSLC268, anything goes with ODBD stamps, was a perfect opportunity to colour up some ODBD stamps!

Elizabeth Whisson, Alshandra, Dolphins, Our Daily Bread Designs, Leafy Edged Borders, Hello, Christian Faith Collection, Copic

For my card I have coloured up these gorgeous Our Daily Bread Designs Dolphins. You can buy them just as the picture, Dolphins, or as a set, Under the Sea.

I love dolphins and feel so blessed to live by the ocean where there are quite a few of them around.

I made a quick speed colouring video of my Copic colouring of this image.
See my You Tube channel or the video directly here.
(For Copic Marker colours used please see the video.)

They have been cut out using ODBD Stitched Ovals dies.

The DP I've used is ODBD Christian Faith Collection and I've coloured over both pieces with Copic marker B02 before diecutting using ODBD Leafy Edged Borders. The edges have been inked with Distress Ink Salty Ocean.

The word has been cut twice using ODBD Hello die and stacked on top of each other to give some height.

Lastly I've added some glossy accents.
